Stand Up Paddle Boarding Phenomenon In Full Bloom Out West

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

by

A practice that dates back thousands of years is quickly becoming a trend on the sun-soaked shores of Santa Cruz, California. People of all ages and experience levels are navigating the seas by way of standing upright on a paddle board and propelling themselves along with the strokes of a long and lightweight paddle.

Known as SUP to those that frequent the beach, stand up paddle boarding has become so popular so quickly that a number of local shops have been hard pressed to keep up with orders for new boards and lessons for beginners who are anxious to experience the ocean in a less labor intensive and risky way than surfing.

The gratifying feeling of skimming along the ocean’s surface makes the experience addictive for many folks, especially those that are naturally drawn to nautical activities. SUP is the perfect way for someone to experience the beauty and power of the ocean without joining the cluster of professional and amateur surfers that fiercely battle for a few choice waves.

When the seas are calm, falling off of the board is not a consistent problem, even for the most inexperienced boarder. As boarders become more familiar and comfortable with the aspects of balance and endurance, some choose to take to the surf and see what riding small to medium sized waves feels like with the benefits of a paddle.

Each and every person that steps onto a paddle board and begins to propel themselves along with smooth strokes will soon realize that it is a full body workout. The shoulders, arms and chest are in a constant state of motion while paddling, and the upper body essentially performs a series of small crunches with each stroke. The entire lower body is flexed from within to ensure that balance is secured and maintained.

The activity is an excellent way to burn calories and tone muscles, making it very popular with the coastal senior community that wants to keep themselves healthy while taking advantage of living close to the warm and alluring waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Sea Eagle Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board

Sea Eagle Inflatable SUP Board

by

The dual-purpose Sea Eagle Longboard 11 is as sturdy as a fiberglass board, but it easily folds up into a compact size for easy packing inside a vehicle or storage facility. The user can stand up and paddle getting an excellent paddleboard workout or sit down with an attachable seat to paddle the longboard like a kayak employing a double-ended paddle.

Sea Eagle Longboard 11 Features

When it comes to durability, this longboard can withstand a heavy beating. The makers tested it with the sharp side of a claw hammer. Repeated hammer hits in this fashion did not penetrate the hull. The material of the hull is reinforced for pounding surf and rocky shallows.

Because the Sea Eagle Longboard can handle the air pressure of 12 pounds, its performance is like a fiberglass board when it comes to gliding through the water as well as cutting and turning. Then, the bottom has a reinforcement patch that gives the board the stiff stability needed for those standing up on its top side.

On top, the board also features a terrific non-skid surface for easy grip while standing on the board for feeling the interaction of the board and the water beneath it. Its rigid quality is an additional durability feature.

Other additions easily convert the board for stand-up or sit-down mode. Appropriate padding is added to the design for sitting down or standing up. The inflatable seat that attaches easily to the board gives lower back support. In the construction, the stitching is drop stitch for the ultimate in strength and stiffness.

A carry bag and an air pressure pump are included in the package. Special gear behind the seat can also be purchased and attached for carrying along supplies while paddling.

Sites to Paddle

The Sea Eagle Longboard will go almost anywhere, but it is especially designed for use in bay areas, internal lakes and out in the ocean. Planning a day of adventure, people can easily drop the bag with the board inside in the trunk of the car and head down to the nearest coastal location or their favorite lake. Those on road trips can fit the bag into the vehicle just in case they find a great place to go paddling during their drive. The compact and great performance qualities of the Sea Eagle Longboard make it a great choice for stand-up paddling and kayaking.
